# 65 - Make a new friend
Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 1:17PM I crossed off #65 of my 101 in 1001 list last night. Two months ago I got an email from local photographer Jen Rodriguez-Cruz wondering if I'd like to get together for coffee. Of course I'm always up for meeting someone new so I said I'd love to. It's taken awhile to actually set a date but we met at Decades last night and had fun.
They had to kick us out at closing time or I think we would have been able to talk all night!
Jen and I have a lot in common - business-wise and personally. It was neat to hear someone else's story of how they became interested in photography, how their business has grown and how they balance their families with a very demanding job. We talked about other photographers who inspire us, drooled while talking about our dream lenses and other gear, and compared notes on the current local photography industry.
I'm glad we got together and I made a new friend! I'm sure we'll be getting together again soon!

Oh, and if you don't mind sticking around for one more sec, let me tag on this funny story...
We had sent at least 10 emails back and forth in order to narrow down a date "no, that doesn't work, what about this day?", "That works, what time?" "Where?"... and so on. So yesterday the emails continued, but we had finally settled on a time and place and date. Well, as I was walking out of the house at 6:55 I glanced at my calendar and realized that our coffee date was planned for next Wednesday. I ran back to my computer and checked back to the original email and sure enough, it was the 24th we had both agreed on.
However, the tone of the emails really seemed to indicate that we were meeting that night. We kept ending with "see you soon!". It was too late to call to confirm by that point, so I packed up my laptop and figured I could get some work done if she didn't show up.
Well, she did. Which maybe doesn't sound hilarious but I really think it is. Somehow in the back-and-forth-ness of it all we both made the same mistake. It worked out in the end though! :)
